What is seeding ratio?

“ Seeding ratio ” is a measure of how much you have downloaded compared to how much you have uploaded. A ratio of 1 means you have uploaded just as much as you have downloaded. A ratio less than 1, for example, 0.25, means you have uploaded a quarter of what you have downloaded. Anything over 1 means you have uploaded more than you have downloaded.

Is there a minimum seed ratio in BitTorrent?

It is common courtesy in BitTorrent to seed at least 1:1 so you are at least giving what you are taking. One user suggests starting at 110% instead of 150% as a seeding ratio. There doesn't seem to be any generally accepted minimum seed ratio beyond this.

What does it mean if your seeding ratio is less than one?

Therefore, whenever your seeding ratio is equal to or greater than one, it means that you have given more to the torrenting community. This way, you become a seeder. When this ratio is less than one, you have not shared as much, and you are, therefore, a leecher.
